A Heap of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season

The winter break present a multitude of pastimes far superior than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing patience techniques to not arguing with family members. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments emerged over the break, and if you overlooked a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)

Perhaps the biggest piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
