After weeks of suspense, plots and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a nail-biting finale
Spoiler alert - This article reveals details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, audiences saw murders, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on Thursday night, the final winner of the first celebrity edition was revealed.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful were left standing: Traitors and loyal players facing off for the winnings.
Before long, the competition tightened to just three: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking result that went viral and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he was actually a traitor. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Online platforms quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote a different person, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount amounting to £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.
However, his victory still left the nation in shock, as noted by industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players explained why no one had truly doubted him.
"He might have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you vote for a person so loveable?" questioned a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would be successful again!"
The final installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. It had an unusual opening than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show music, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I started the competition as something of an anxious mess. I've betrayed close allies under the bus, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and player than I believed."
At the same time, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with England", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
Early on in the episode, several players seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
But he was outstyled by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the final players boarding a locomotive called - of course - The Traitors Express.
This task involved ripping up images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit in the head THREE times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise beforehand, pledging to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated a player, while the other simply laughed.
And one adhered to his promise. Yet, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, the other still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor appeared he was in significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against that player to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," wrote a different viewer.
But there was no time to dwell on their elimination. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being what we were really all here for.
The final four stood over the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, it was revealed that when they message, the betrayed player refers to the other as a traitor.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by another, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the scene where remaining contestants consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it will be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they said.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and here I am the champion," the winner said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend in an early episode - by leaning toward the presenter in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
